Do You Need a Community of Mourners?

Though everyone’s experience of grief is different, deep grief cannot be processed alone. That’s why - together with two of my most valued colleagues - I am calling in a community of mourners.

A community of mourners is made up of intentional persons who are consciously committed to completion of their grief cycle, and who are willing to give and receive support for that process.

Loss and death are a normal part of life. Our ancestors knew and accepted this as a truth. When any member of the community experienced a loss, everyone joined in the rituals of grieving. That way, they shared in the experience of grief. They helped transform grief.

When grief is buried or ignored, it causes a negative effect on the mind, body and soul. We lose our vitality. When it is transformed, it has a positive effect on our life-force energy. Through transformative arts such as storytelling, writing, movement, and ritual, we can affect transformation at the personal level. In doing so, we become revitalized, able to reconnect and find our resilience.

As a community of mourners, we can process devastating personal and planetary loss. Together, we can transform grief in a way that fosters consciousness, courage, and community within the crucible of grieving.

Are you feeling called to integrate and transform grief within the sacred space of an intentional community of mourners?
Then you’re on the right path. Together, we can find our way into the light.

You’re invited to join me and co-grief guides Dionne Ruff-Sloane and Dean Walker for this new, one-of-a-kind online retreat, “Hearts Broken Open: Grief as a Sacred Path to Reconnection and Resilience,” on November 5- 6. We’ll be playing with music, movement, journaling and connection as we create a powerful grief ritual that will allow integration and release.
