De-Cluttering and Organizing

Even if you love the items, too much stuff in too small a space can make the room feel cluttered and can make your entire life feel cramped and stagnant.

De-Cluttering is releasing all that no longer serves you. And it’s an act of courage! You are letting go of the old. The old stuff, the old you.

Why De-Clutter?

We have a relationship, an attachment, with everything in our space. Each item, from furniture to accessories to junk mail, is either raising your energy level and mood— or lowering it. You can dramatically improve your life by releasing everything that is draining you. De-Cluttering has a powerful cleansing effect on our bodies, minds, feelings, and relationships!

How do I De-Clutter?

The best way to De-Clutter is the same way you’d make love or prepare a delicious meal — consciously!

Set aside the time you’ll need.

Have all the materials on hand you will need.

Turn on your favorite music and begin.

As you look at each item, ask

  • Do I love you?

  • Do I use you?

  • Do you make my heart sing?

  • Is it my highest choice to have you in my space?

With each item you give or throw away, affirm “I release this in order to create space for _________ (your highest choice).”

As you clean and organize, get into the body-sense of having your space filled with the exact items you choose to enjoy!

Organizing

Organizing your belongings takes time, but it will save so much time and energy in the long run. You need more than a “place for everything and everything in it’s place.” You need what I call Sustainable Systems, ways of organizing that are easily maintained and that grow and evolved as your life does.

You’ll also want to base your organizing strategies on the way you remember where you’ve put something. I developed a Unique Retrieval Strategy test, so that my students and clients can determine the best strategies for them.

When you’ve organized the following, your home and work space will function and feel like a partner in your success, always there to
serve and support you:

· hallways

· kitchen

· bathrooms

· living areas (books, media)

· bedrooms (including kids’ rooms,
sick room, closets, travel items)

·  storage: garage, attic, basement, workshop, shed

·  your finances

· your credit identity

· a disaster plan

· home office (message center, computer, memorabilia)

· entryways

· laundry
